Ways of Seeing: Ethics and Aesthetics in the World Press Photo Competition, 1955-2010

I examined the intellectual history of the moral status of humanitarian photography, drawing upon the archive of the World Press Photo Competition. I was interested in the changing norms that underpinned representations of suffering, which I analysed through the prism of Immanuel Kant's aesthetics.
