I’m originally from China and graduated from Peking University with a BA in Arabic Language and Literature. I have been enthusiastic for studying history of different regions since I was a child. In Peking University I became interested in history of the Middle East and North Africa. I wrote a paper on Catholicism and the status of Catholic communities in Morocco for my junior-year thesis project, and studied French colonial policies during Lyautey’s administration (1912-1925) for my graduation thesis at Peking University.
At Columbia and LSE I hope to study colonialism, urban history and the interactions between different ethno-religious groups in North Africa. I also dream of conducting trans-regional and comparative historical studies on the Western World, the Middle East and China.
