Tobias Pester
Tobias Pester received his undergraduate degree from Humboldt-University Berlin in Historical Linguistics and Business Administration writing on the formation of standard German in the late 16th century. Thereafter he focused on the historiography of nationalism and anti-colonial nationalism in particular, and received a Master’s degree in South Asia Studies.
His areas of specialization include global and intellectual history, historiography, nationalism and its conceptualization, as well as colonialism. Developing interests are settler colonialism, the history of knowledge, political iconology, and space and perspective.
In the MA/MSc program, his research focused on 19th century Protestant Missionary-Merchant networks spanning the US, Germany and the Middle East while probing the discursive co-formation of mission and capitalism.
In the past he has acted as co-founder, editor and, occasionally, writer for the German-speaking online journalism project dasDossier.de.
