Dissertation

Tina graduated from McGill University in April 2016 with a major in History and a minor in Economics. She wrote two honours theses, the first of which explored the misconceptions surrounding illegal immigration in the U.S., and identified them as a large factor behind Latino support of Proposition 187, a racial ballot implemented in California in 1994. The second thesis explored the ways in which the nuclear crisis of the Cold War era could be framed using René Girard's theory on violence and sacrifice. Although she is interested in both American domestic and foreign policies, Tina anticipates exploring the shifts in American rhetoric when communicating with economically powerful East Asian countries such as China and Japan.

The past two years, Tina has been working in Japan as an English teacher to elementary and junior high school children in Japan while brushing up on her Japanese. Tina speaks English, French, and Chinese fluently, and wishes to pursue her studies of Spanish and Japanese in the future. Outside academic pursuits, Tina enjoys travelling, reading, and playing video games.
