Taynia Atallia Brown

Research Interest

Born and raised in Saint Ann, Jamaica, Taynia Atallia Brown immigrated to the United States in 2017. She graduated with high distinction at the University at Buffalo, earning a Bachelor of Arts in History with a minor in Law. Brown is a member of Phi Beta Kappa National Honor Society and Phi Alpha Theta History Honor Society and served as a student ambassador for the College of Arts and Sciences. She is a McNair Scholar and a Gilman Scholarship recipient, which allowed her to study abroad at Korea University.

Brown has been honored with various scholarships and recognitions, including the 2024 College of Arts and Sciences Outstanding Senior for History. She gained extensive experiential learning through community engagement, research, and internships. Her academic interests focus on medical history, inspiring her thesis “RICO System of Eugenics: Unveiling the Shadows of Eugenic Sterilization in North Carolina.”

At Columbia University and LSE, Brown aims to explore changes in medicine, particularly regulations, medical practices, technological advancements, patient care, and institutional conventions affecting disadvantaged communities.
