Sophie Preuss is half-German and half-Spanish, and her areas of interest are the Middle East and China, while her dissertation focused on the anarchist movement in Catalonia before the outbreak of the Spanish Civil War. After finishing her first year at Columbia, Sophie interned for UNRWA at the UN headquarters in New York where amongst other things she carried out research on the Palestinian bid for statehood at the UN. Before starting the International and World History program Sophie spent five months in Beijing studying Mandarin Chinese at PKU. She did her BA in German and Spanish Literature at Oxford University with an exchange year at Universidad Complutense in Madrid. Sophie is fluent in German, Spanish and English and continued studying Mandarin Chinese both in New York as well as in London.
