“Shadow Governor” Xu Jiatun and Xinhua News Agency in Hong Kong: 1983-1989

Wang's master’s dissertation focuses on contemporary UK-China, Hong Kong-China relations and soft power regarding the history of Hong Kong's sovereignty transfer. Specifically, Wang's dissertation explores the multifaceted role of Xinhua News Agency: as a hub of China's "united front" forces in Hong Kong, it influenced media reporting and public opinion; Xinhua also has advanced China's market reform for allowing Chinese reformists to expand the connection between mainland China and Hong Kong in the early 1980s.
