Originally from Suzhou, China, Ruoyu graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a Bachelor of Arts in History (with honors) and Political Science. His honors thesis examines the dichotomies of “Jesuits vs. Philosophes” and “Sinophiles vs. Sinophobes” among intellectuals in early modern France. He became interested in the Cold War history after his internship at the National Security Archive in 2016. He researched Cold War history at Columbia and LSE, with particular interest in diplomatic history and history of international law.
