Nick graduated from Loyola University Maryland in 2017 with a BA (Cum Laude) in History and Global Studies, completing his junior year abroad at Katholieke Universiteit Leuven. His Dual Degree thesis, Making Gymnastics American: German and Swedish Influence on Physical Education in the United States, 1880–1925, reinterpreted the role of Turner and Swedish gymnastics experts in shaping early physical education. His research demonstrated how these immigrant communities laid the groundwork for the field’s professionalization by establishing teacher-training schools, supporting American reform organizations, and introducing gymnastics programs across U.S. cities. Nick argues that their approaches continued to shape domestic PE practices long after 1918.
Since 2021, Nick has taught high school social studies in South Brooklyn, including serving in leadership roles with the Uncommon Schools charter network as a Department Chair and Instructional Leader. Nick currently teaches United States History at Abraham Lincoln High School in Coney Island. He designs student-centered classes driven by primary-source analysis, encouraging students to form modern connections and articulate their perspectives through open discussion.
Outside the classroom, Nick has completed the Hollyhock Humanities Fellowship and served as an advisor for the Museum of the City of New York’s Civics in the City initiative. His academic research has evolved into a broader commitment to understanding how school environments shape students’ physical and socioemotional wellbeing. He explores these issues as the host of the Healthy Schools Podcast on Spotify and through regular publications on Substack. Nick aims to deepen his involvement in education policy while continuing his work as an educator.
