My name is Malcolm Elliott and I was a community college transfer student who graduated Cum Laude with a B.A. in History, with an emphasis on Economic Underdevelopment in the Developing World, from UCLA in June 2016. Before that I spent years working in the Hospitality industry in my native San Diego, CA while simultaneously obtaining my A.A. in History. During those years I became inspired by the research and thesis of Walter Rodney in regards to the economic underdevelopment that is pervasive throughout the Atlantic and African Diasporas. I spent the summer of 2015 participating in a Summer Abroad program in Italy where I had multiple opportunities to speak with North African migrants and refugees. My research interests are on the ways in which globalization and global financial systems have hindered the socioeconomic and political development of nations in both the Gold Coast and Caribbean Isles.
When not being a productive citizen, I enjoy traveling and experiencing new destinations, cultures, peoples, and cuisines. I enjoy discussing all topics, from politics to music, and everything in-between. I am also an avid football fan, especially my hometown San Diego Chargers, as well as all things Game of Thrones and Star Trek.
