Research Interest

Born in New York and raised in Arizona, Joseph Rosegrant was immersed in the study of the human past through trips to museums and archaeological sites from an early age. He received his BA in Archaeology and Anthropology from the University of Oxford, concluding the degree with his dissertation on the kinship structures of the ancient and modern Puebloan peoples of the American Southwest: “Family and Faith: Puebloan Kinship Through the Ages.”

Since graduating from Oxford, Joseph has embarked on a career as an archaeologist, working throughout Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, and Wyoming. Having previously focused on the prehistory of the southwest, Joseph’s work on various historic sites, including O’Rourke’s Camp and the Temple Trail in the Gila and Mohave Counties of Arizona, fostered a new interest in the history of the region.

At Columbia and LSE, Joseph intends to further his studies of the American West, with a focus on cross-cultural interactions in the 19th and 20th centuries between the various ethnic groups of the region, both native and not, as well as how these peoples engaged with the vast developments in infrastructure and industry that took place during this period.
