Joseph graduated from Wake Forest University in 2014 with a B.A. in History. His undergraduate thesis explored the treatment of nomadic peoples in the state formation process of the British protectorate of Transjordan (1921-1946). Since graduating, he has worked primarily as an analyst with the Syrian conflict. While the immediacy of the work has its appeal, statements like ISIS's "The End of Sykes-Picot" emphasize the post-colonial context of the current conflict and reinforce his decision to return to a study of the formative years of the modern Middle East.
