Daphné Dupont-Nivet

Dissertation

Daphné graduated cum laude in 2013 from Utrecht University, the Netherlands, obtaining a BA in Language and Culture Studies (with a major in Political History and International Relations). In her BA thesis, she scrutinized to what extent and how European asylum policies influence the way that European citizenship is understood. During her undergraduate degree, Daphné spent a semester at the University of Haifa, Israel. There, she focused on Middle Eastern studies and Arabic.

In the future, Daphné would like to pursue a career in the field of international journalism. During her BA, she interned at NGO Free Press Unlimited. In 2012 and 2014, she co-authored a book as well as a blog, concerning the Dutch and European parliamentary elections, respectively. She spent seven months working for Dutch online journalism platform De Correspondent.

As a Fulbright grantee, Daphné hopes to deepen her knowledge in her main fields of interest at Columbia and LSE, namely: nationalism, migration, social identity, postcolonial thought, political theory and international security. Building upon this knowledge, she wishes to, one day, write insightful and nuanced articles for a broad public.
