Anna Hoyt was born and raised in Southern California, where she attended Point Loma Nazarene University. There, she earned her BA in History and completed an undergraduate thesis titled “Blessed Among Women: The Role of Mary in the Bible and the Qur’an.” Through her research and studies at Point Loma, she developed a particular interest in the Middle East and the Islamic world and, upon graduation, began studying Arabic. Since completing her degree, Anna has gained experience in museums through internships with maritime museums, where she has conducted historical research and contributed to curatorial and collections projects.
At Columbia and LSE, Anna intends to further her studies of the Middle East, with interests spanning early Islamic civilization and modern Middle Eastern history. She is particularly interested in the intersections of women, religion, and political authority, especially within political movements and revolutions.
