Andre graduated from Yale-NUS College in 2021 with a BA in History and a minor in Art & Humanities. His undergraduate thesis focused on British Orientalist painter Frederic Leighton's collection of Oriental items and their connection with imperial power. After graduating, Andre worked as a research assistant with a team from the Singapore University of Technology and Design on a project about Asian architects in Singapore pre-1926.
Andre's research interests include the British empire, material and visual culture, and Britain's relationship with its colonial holdings in Southeast Asia. During his time in the program Andre hopes to explore how Britain and its colonies perceived each other and how this relationship shaped each party's visual and material culture over time.
While not in class, Andre enjoys visiting museums, catching plays and musicals, mahjong, playing table tennis, and going for pub quizzes.
