Aidan studied an unusual combination of late medieval Europe and modern East Asia in the Columbia/LSE program. He now works as an editor, web designer, and de facto chief of staff at the Center for Astrophysics | Harvard & Smithsonian, where he can be found waxing poetic about old telescopes. He also contributes a "History Corner" column to the CfA's weekly newsletter.
Between the Columbia/LSE program and the CfA, Aidan worked for two years as a reporter in the DC bureau of the Japanese newspaper Asahi Shimbun. In March of 2023, at an academic conference, he presented a paper on the representations of history in the popular grand strategy computer game Europa Universalis IV.
He wrote his undergraduate thesis at the University of Chicago on British and Japanese isolationism in the 19th century.
