Research Interest

Laura received a B.A. in History from the University of Washington with a concentration in empire and colonialism and minors in Environmental Studies and Art History. As an undergraduate she held a leadership position with the University’s First Year Programs and interned at a Seattle-based NGO focusing on sustainability and war legacies issues in central Vietnam. Her interests include 20th-century US history, the politics of memory and memorialization, modern humanitarian and environmental movements, and the effects of globalization on culture, media, and identity. At Columbia and the LSE, she hopes to narrow and deepen these interests, and enhance her understanding of how historical thinking can be prioritized in policy and advocacy work. In her free time, she enjoys cooking, classic and experimental films, and spending time outdoors.
