Janaki Bakhle, assistant professor of modern Indian history,specializes in the modern, political, and cultural history of SouthAsia, feminist and postcolonial theory, and intellectual history. Shereceived her Ph.D from Columbia University, and her B.A. fromElphinstone College, Bombay University. Her publications include
Two Men and Music: Nationalism in the Making of an Indian Classical Tradition(Oxford, 2005), "Music as the Sound of the Secular" (CSSH, 2008). Sheis presently working on a manuscript entitled "Colonial Terror and theSeditious Native" and is currently engaged in conducting research onHindu political fundamentalism, and the life of Vinayak Damodar Savarkar.
