This seminar explores
concepts, perspectives and sources essential to understanding the U.S.'s use of
soft power over the last century. Students will work with terms such as
"hegemony," "Americanization," and "creolization"
with an eye to developing their own topics which might range from Woolworths to
Walmart and from fast food to faith-based inititiatives. Knowledge of a foreign
language is required. 4 pts.
