When is the application deadline?
The application deadline is March 1, 2009. Earlier submission of applications isencouraged.
Earlynotification of admittance to the program is not normally possible. If you have extenuating circumstances, pleasecontact the MA Program Office.

Can I apply to more than one graduate program at Columbia?
Applications for the dual MA Program in International and World History are handled through the Admissions office of the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences (GSAS) at Columbia.

How long is the program?
The program requires two years of full-time study.
The first year of the program begins in early September at Columbia University and ends in May. The second year of the program begins in late September or early October at the London School of Economics.
What do graduates of the program do afterwards?
Graduates of the program will receive two degrees after completing both years of study. It is not possible to receive either degree with only one year of study.
This is a new program at Columbia and the LSE. We expect the first incoming class to arrive on Columbia campus in Fall 2008. The first class will graduate in 2010.
Graduates will be prepared for careers in government, international organizations, NGOs, journalism, and further academic pursuits.

Do I have to take the GRE?
The GRE test is not required for admission to the dual MA Program in International and World History but it is suggested.
If you do take the GRE and wish to include the test scores sent to the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences at Columbia University, use Institution Code 2162. A Department Code is not necessary.I am a non-native speaker of English. Do I have to take the TOEFL or IELTS?

The IELTS exam is also accepted.
For students who have received an undergraduate degree in a country where English was the language of instruction, the test is not necessary.
I want to study for a Ph.D. in this field. Does the MA degree lead to a Ph.D.?
Admission to the dual MA Program in International and World History includes admission to the second year of the program at the LSE.
Admission does not include admission to other programs at Columbia.
However, students in the program may wish to apply to programs of further study at Columbia or LSE during or after completion of the dual MA Program. These programs require a separate application for each admissions cycle.Are scholarships available for students from outside of the United States?
Most students in this program will be financially self-supporting, and many students will want to apply for student loans and other sources of financial aid.
Students are encouraged to apply for external sources of scholarship funding as soon as possible. Scholarship programs often have application deadlines between 6 months and 1 year before the start of the academic program.
